Passenger, Baggage and Cargo Handling Airport Solutions

The Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH has contracted PSI Logistics GmbH with implementing a new host computer system for controlling baggage sorting and handling. The PSI subsidiary specialised in logistics software and airport solutions will replace the entire hardware with modern system components and migrate an IT system from the PSIairport solutions to a new database.

A tailor-made solution will be implemented containing new IT components and using the airport’s existing structures. Within the framework of a five-year maintenance and service contract, the use of the PSI software guarantees a long-term operational security as well as process efficiency and investment security for the Stuttgart Airport.

About 9.6 million passengers are handled annually at the Stuttgart Airport. In the future the PSI system will assure a reliable control of the baggage handling and sorting system as well as an optimal process control between the check-in terminals and baggage loading. To that end, the IT infrastructure from PSI will be shifted to a modern, virtual server landscape with numerous computers linked to one another. “This offers the airport nearly 100-percent availability around the clock seven days a week,” explains Jörg Ruhnau, Head of Production at PSI Logistics. The internal display systems for the loaders as well as the mobile end devices of the operative processes will be connected to the software of the new control system. In addition, the IT will be integrated into the SITA network as a working platform system through which the airlines and the airport can exchange their flight information.

Almost all the major German airports as well as important national and international hubs such as airports in Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Vienna apply PSI solutions for the planning as well as the control of operative processes in luggage, freight and passenger handling.
