Passenger Terminal Expo 2014

Company Passenger Terminal Expo
Date 12.03.2014

Passenger Terminal EXPO and CONFERENCE 2014 is just two weeks away. More delegates than ever are booked into the conference, with 300 industry-leading speakers lined up to discuss the issues that really matter to the airport and airline industry.

Over 160 exhibitors will welcome 3,500 visitors to their stands at the expo, making Passenger Terminal EXPO THE essential airport event of the year.

More highlights of what is in store at this year's Passenger Terminal CONFERENCE…

Airport Design, Planning & Development – two days – 25 & 27 March
"Everyone comes to PTE – it is the best conference for catching up with colleagues from other airports and picking up the latest ideas in passenger experience" John Holland-Kaye, Development Director at Heathrow.

Since his appointment at London Heathrow in October 2012 John Holland-Kaye has been charged with overseeing the airport's £1bn annual redevelopment programme, including the new Terminal 2, which is due to open later this year. His Passenger Terminal CONFERENCE session will look at the role of this new Terminal 2 in the wider plans for the airport, and how it has been designed around the passenger.

Management & Operations (inc. ACDM, ATC & TAM) – one day – 25 March
Few understand the role of airport collaborative decision making better than David Booth, a former air-traffic controller with more than 34 years' experience in the field.
Now Airport CDM Implementation Manager at Eurocontrol, Belgium, in this conference track on operation systems and management, Booth will discuss how this process is on the rise. He says, "A-CDM deployment has started to accelerate – we now have 10 fully implemented A-CDM airports in Europe alone, and by the end of this year we plan to have between 16 and 20.

"Airports have always been a critical part of the European aviation system and are now being more closely integrated within the network. However, delegates should realise that A-CDM is not only for Europe but also for the rest of the world."

Customer Service & Passenger Experience – three days – 25, 26 & 27 March
Customer service is never more stretched than when a major incident shuts hub operations. When this happened to not one but two Virgin America hubs within six months, lessons learned from the experience were put to the test.

In this speech, Douglas Stolls, Manager Guest Relations and Central Baggage at Virgin America, and Kavaragu Mtambuzi, DOT Compliance Analyst at Virgin America, will explain how service recovery worked in these real-life scenarios. Stolls says, "We will share valuable insight on how to minimise impact to the guest while simultaneously maintaining focus on the operation. Additionally, we will show you how to fully utilise your customer care workforce to be proactive rather than reactive."

Edward Kobuthi, Airport Manager at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi – Kenya Airports Authority, will explain what happened when fire ripped through the airport in August 2013. Kobuthi says, "I will communicate the interaction between terminal design and effective management, and how experience with a terminal emergency or disaster can be used to shape design of a new terminal."

Airport Design, Planning & Development – Middle East & Asia – one day – 26 March
This track, dedicated to the Middle East and Asia region, will focus on how the future of airport design and development is shaping up.

Katsuhiro Yamaguchi is in charge of corporate strategy, international relations and business development at New Kansai International Airport Company Ltd (NKIAC) in Japan. He says, "Taking advantage of the 24-hour operational capability of Kansai International Airport NKIAC, we have taken strategic steps to facilitate start-up of Japan's first LCC, Peach Aviation, by building an LCC-dedicated terminal in 2012.

"This airport-airline collaboration has led LCC to become a social boom in Japan and cast bright light on a society still suffering from the aftermath of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. In just two years the market generated by LCC is approaching five million per annum."

Making Bengaluru South India's preferred hub airport is the responsibility of Hari Marar, President, Airport Operations at Bangalore International Airport Limited, and his team.

In this session Marar will discuss developing a multipronged strategy for establishing an aviation hub, how to develop an airport product that reflects the strategic intent, engaging multiple stakeholders and aligning their efforts to achieve strategic objectives, and the airport's innovative approaches to expanding the catchment area and improving tourism.

Mohamed Al-Binfalah, CEO Bahrain Airport Company, is responsible for the overall performance of Bahrain International Airport and its subsidiaries. In this time of change, when the airport is due an overhaul and modernisation programme, this speech will look at how the company is tackling this regeneration.

Al-Binfalah says, "Bahrain Airport Company's approach to the regeneration and repositioning of Bahrain International Airport is through master planning, increase in airfield and passenger terminal capacity and enhancement of non-aeronautical revenues."

More new products due to be unveiled at Passenger Terminal EXPO include:

New aircraft ground support equipment from ThyssenKrupp Airport Systems
The new CNDL PCAir hose management system from ThyssenKrupp supplies airflow to docked aircraft with flexibility, comfort, ecological awareness and safety.
The new CNDL system sees the hoses compressed, negating the need furl , and allowing the exact hose length to be deployed for each individual case or type of aircraft, and so offering many environmental and economic benefits.

Added to this, TysennKrupp Airport Systems will be unveiling its high-performance refrigeration conduits. MTO has been designed to allow high-quality thermal insulation against external conditions. The system consists of two or three telescopic sections manufactured in stainless steel. Proper telescopic movement is achieved through a protected integrated roller system specially designed for heavy-duty loads.

MTO can also be integrated into any type of passenger boarding bridge and is compatible with any hose retriever system available on the market.

Beontra Scenario Planning – in use at over 40 airports worldwide
Beontra introduces its new iPad app at Passenger Terminal EXPO 2014, enabling airport operators to take operational, tactical and strategic airport planning to the next level. It features passenger flow predictions and facility opening recommendations (e.g. security lanes or check-in counters) all visualised directly on mobile terminal maps.

Beontra Scenario Planning defines the industry standard for airport planning and optimisation.
Integrating aspects of traffic forecasting, airport capacity and revenue planning, it aims to deliver quick answers on 'what-if' scenarios, ranging from long-term strategic planning perspectives all the way down to tactical and operations planning.

This new app can be shared with airport stakeholders (e.g. handlers, security or shop operators) to distribute an airport's planning results to third parties in an innovative way and support the optimisation of airport efficiency.

Infrastructure operators are able to identify and analyse expected traffic peak structures (weekly/daily/hourly/15-minute buckets) and derive the facility requirements necessary for supporting the expected traffic demand levels.
