Leading business technology solutions provider Amor Group, in partnership with Distributed Management Systems (DMS), has been awarded a grant by the government-backed Technology Strategy Board to develop a highly advanced IT security solution.

Amor Group and DMS are delighted to have been awarded the £57,000 grant, which will allow them to create a new solution for the growing global market for security products.

Both companies will work together to develop a system that will allow users to be sure that the web host they are accessing – through a PC, laptop or smartphone – is genuine, while also ensuring that the host can verify the identity of the user.

The target market for the solution is broad, covering any area where sensitive or secure information is held, including cloud-based applications and joint-working projects involving several agencies which need to ensure they are working with authorised users and accessing valid services.

The solution is based on a highly secure technology already validated by the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and will utilise DMS’s CASQUE multi-factor authentication system, which uses hand-held tokens.

Ian Whittaker, a senior consultant at Amor Group, said: “We were delighted to receive this grant, which is part of a £2million competition announced earlier this year by the Technology Strategy Board. Grant funding was only awarded to high quality projects, which underlines the strength of Amor Group and DMS’s combined expertise.

“The global market for security products is substantial and, with the growth in services such as cloud computing, there is a growing need to mutually authenticate users and services to a certified high assurance level.

“The £57,000 grant gives us an ideal opportunity to investigate a potential new solution, as well as allowing us to have our ideas and expertise successfully assessed in an independent and competitive forum.”

Basil Philipsz, Managing Director of DMS, added: “We are delighted to be able to work with Amor Group to apply our innovative security technology to produce a world beating secure service provision.”

The Technology Strategy Board currently manages a range of programmes and delivery mechanisms to drive innovation across UK industry. This competition was to encourage UK companies to develop tools, techniques and services to create information systems that are both secure and trustworthy.

Amor Group provides business technology solutions, professional services and managed services to the energy, transport and public sectors.

Based in Blackburn, DMS has expertise in token-based access control systems. Major solutions included the means to control entry into the non-public areas of the Port of Dover and more recently, enabling worldwide secure access of RAF personnel into UK MOD Restricted Servers over public data networks.
