New products from Access-IS open the pathway to fast and reliable reading and interrogation of the latest generation of ePassports. Access-IS, a leading specialist in the field passport and ID document readers announces the launch of its new SAC (Supplemental Access Control) compliant OCR601-Mk2, OCR601-SC and OCR640e devices.

Already EAC (Extended Access Control) capable, these new releases completely satisfy the requirements for SAC, the new digital access protocol that all European travel documents issued from December 2014 are obliged to support.

The new regulations, now mandated in Europe and finding favour worldwide, bring a new level of protection against eavesdropping through enhanced cryptography and the ability to use measures such as Card Access Numbers (CAN). The new products maintain all of the functionally and compatibility you’d expect with 1st and 2nd generation e-documents.

These new devices are designed and built with the same attention to detail that made their predecessors an obvious choice.

The OCR601-Mk2 sees minor changes to support this new document standard, whilst the OCR640e sees a major overhaul from its predecessor providing significant speed and performance improvements.

The new OCR601-SC was developed to meet the demands of existing customers who want to add Contact Card reading ability to their operation whilst retaining the usability that the existing form factor delivers. It is a 4-in-1 device offering MRZ, RFID, two Smartcard slots and two SAM (Secure Access Management) modules. An integrated USB hub featuring two powered USB ports has been added for further flexibility. This new reader is ideally suited to applications such as border control and immigration, ID capture & verification, document issuance (passport, visa, etc.) and other commercial applications (gaming, hotels and hire car registration).
