Recording Systems for the Air Traffic Community

Precision Applications, working in partnership with Thales ATM, has been selected as the supplier for a new ATM recording system to be installed at Manston Kent International Airport.  A Veristore recording solution will be used provide a fully integrated system to record audio data, raw radar (through the wall) data and controller screen (at the glass) information.  The system will be fully compliant with the new regulations specified in UK CAA CAP 670, Sections COM 01 and SUR 10 and the latest ICAO Specifications and Recommendations.

Three large off-shore wind farms are being developed in the Thames Estuary and the turbines at these wind farms are causing significant areas of clutter to be displayed on the radar screens at Manston.  Thales have been selected to install a new radar system, which comprises a STAR 2000 primary radar and co-mounted RSM 970S monopulse mode-S secondary surveillance radar, complete with Eurocat-C automation system.  This new system will differentiate between a return signal from an aircraft and a turbine, thereby reducing the possibility of false radar track information being presented to air traffic controllers.

Precision Applications are pleased be working in partnership with Thales to install the new recording system, which will directly interface with the Thales radar.  All of the new equipment will be fully operational towards the end of 2011 in time to meet the new regulations for recording surveillance data, which come into force on 1st January 2012.
