620DV AT advanced X-Ray baggage screener now meets STAC Certification requirements for liquid explosive detection

Rapiscan Systems, Inc., a leading global supplier of security inspection systems, announced today that its 620DV AT (Dual View) advanced baggage X-Ray scanner has been certified by the Service Technique de l’Aviation Civile (STAC) for Liquid Explosive Detection Systems (LEDS). The 620DV AT is already approved for use by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and various other regulatory bodies.

One of the most widely deployed advanced baggage-screening systems in the world, the 620DV AT is a STAC and ECAC Standard 2 compliant system that offers a highly competitive total cost of ownership.  Utilising advanced threat detection software, the system classifies liquids in scanned carry-ons as potential threats or benign, freeing passengers from having to remove liquids from luggage at security checkpoints. By providing two perpendicular views, the Rapiscan 620DV AT delivers a more complete perspective of scanned items, allowing airport screeners to better identify potential threats, including liquid explosive and other improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The French civil aviation authority, Service Technique de l’Aviation Civile, is attached to the Air Transport Directorate of the French Ministry in charge of transport, and provides assistance to the Ministry of Defense. STAC provides airports with technical expertise and support and is focused on airport infrastructure and equipment, air navigation, environment, air transport safety, and transport security.

“Having been proven at aviation checkpoints around the globe, the STAC certification is yet another achievement for the 620DV AT and goes further to demonstrate the need for an affordable, high-performance security solution that not only meets the regulatory requirements of today but alsoof the future” said Frank Baldwin, Managing Director at Rapiscan Systems UK. “By detecting both conventional explosive threats and, more importantly, being able to differentiate between threatening and benign liquids, this is an ideal solution for airports across France and Europe looking for a complete and cost effective screening solution.”

The Rapiscan 620DV has also passed European Civil Aviation Conference’s (ECAC) common evaluation process (CEP) Standard 2 threat detection test for Liquid Explosive Detection Systems (LEDS) and isapproved for use by the UK’s Department for Transport and the US Transportation Security Administration for both aviation checkpoint screening and air cargo screening. It can also be used for critical non-aviation applications such as military checkpoints, customs inspection and the protection of national infrastructure.
