Maintenance measures completed within two weeks / New “anti-skid surface” ensures better grip

The north-west runway at Frankfurt Airport is back in operation. One day earlier than planned, the first Lufthansa plane from Paris landed on the runway at 1:12 p.m.

Airport operator Fraport carried out necessary maintenance measures from May 16th to 31st. A new “anti-skid surface” will provide more grip on the 2,800-meter-long track and reduce maintenance intervals. In the winter months, the new surface can also save up to 25 percent in de-icing agent.

“We are very pleased that we were able to complete the refurbishment measures on the 126,000 square meter area on time,” explains Axel Konrad, construction project management at Fraport AG. “The good weather played into our hands, so that we were able to apply the new surface with 900 tons of chippings and 164 tons of epoxy resin in the planned timeframe and open the runway for flight operations a day earlier than planned.”
