Jerome and Richard, alongside other expert spokespeople, are available for interview, or can provide written comment/insights on the following:

  • X-Ray Diffraction – Smiths Detection is shaping the future of the industry with the launch of a groundbreaking new security scanner leveraging x-ray diffraction. This innovative technology offers automatic, non-invasive detection and delivers superior levels of material discrimination and substance identification. This makes it particularly suitable for resolving alarms generated by Explosive Detection Systems and detecting constantly changing powder, liquid or solid compounds such as ‘homemade’ explosives and narcotics.
  • CT Technology at the Checkpoint – New CT scanners being deployed at many airports worldwide will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the security screening process, enabling passengers to leave liquids and laptops in their bags and helping security personnel to quickly identify potential threats.
  • Automated Prohibited Items Detection – Smiths Detection’s iCMORE technology uses artificial intelligence-based algorithms to automatically detect prohibited items such as firearms, knives, scissors, axes, blunt objects and more. Considering staff shortages and increasing passenger numbers at major airports, this will be a key enabler for increased operational efficiency, throughput and security whilst also reducing operational expenditure and facilitating resource planning.
  • Open Architecture – As part of its Ada Initiative, Smiths Detection is accelerating the adoption of open architecture into the security environment. Open Architecture allows hardware, software and algorithms from different suppliers to be networked together, enabling technology to be managed centrally so customers can achieve operational efficiencies, improved security outcomes and work with a more relevant, precise data ecosystem.
  • Training – As part of its customer care, Smiths Detection offer a comprehensive programme of training courses through its Virtual Training Centre, including a new Image Interpretation Training course that equips novice and experienced screeners with the skills necessary to identify potential threats.
