Software for Airport Planning, Design and Operations #1

Company SIMTRA
Date 18.10.2013

Simtra AeroTech AB, developers of software solutions for aviation and transportation planners, designers, engineers and architects, is pleased to announce the release of PathPlanner 6.05.

Highly anticipated by many, this release sees the implementation of a full migration function for converting projects produced using the previous generation of the software, PathPlanner A5, to the new data format that is used by PathPlanner 6. "This command was made available to our testing group prior to the northern summer this year. Over the past few months it has been thoroughly tested in a wide range of cases so we are satisfied that it is a stable, accurate and reliable solution. Obviously this is a much requested feature so we're very happy to be able to include it in the 6.05 release" mentioned James Renner, Development Manager – Products & Marketing at Simtra.

In addition, a great deal of improvement has been made to the Vehicle Manager command, the tool used to create user-defined vehicle templates. Now including an intuitive user-interface, smarter presentation of dimensioning information and more flexible handling of loads, e.g. special objects, this updates brings the Vehicle Manager in line with the new approach that is present elsewhere in PathPlanner. As is standard with this type of release, new items have also been added to the object library and a number of bug fixes have been carried out.

About PathPlanner

After its initial development in 1994 together with the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority, Airbus selected PathPlanner in the late 1990's to prepare for the introduction of the A380 at major international airports. Having proven its value ever since, PathPlanner is now in use at the vast majority of the world’s largest airports, aviation consultancy firms and Passenger Boarding Bridge manufacturers. It is used by airport design and operations professionals to plan and design aprons, taxiways and runways.

About Simtra

Founded in 1989, Simtra was originally involved in the navigation of mobile robots. The company branched out in 1994 and merged the results of the robotics research with airport know-how provided by the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority. This resulted in the software application PathPlanner; an airside planning, design and operations tool that could be used directly in the CAD environment.

In recent years other software products have been added to Simtra’s portfolio and today the company is recognized as a leading supplier of software solutions and services for planners, designers, engineers and architects in both the aviation and transportation industries.
