Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA) takes delivery of new custom-made AMHS solution following factory acceptance test

Port of Spain/Trinidad and Tobago, September 2012 – In looking for the ideal solution to be ready for ICAO’s move towards a global AMHS network, and replace its existing AFTN system, as well as to comply with ICAO’s FPL2012, the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA) opted for COMSOFT’s technically proven solution and expertise. COMSOFT is known for facilitating the largest numbers of AMHS connections around the world. Following initial testing, the system was delivered to the customer on schedule.

In addition to its own ten national terminals, the TTCAA – the largest ANSP in the Caribbean – is responsible for the airspace of 14 of the Leeward and Windward Islands that includes some of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, such as Barbados and Martinique, which at peak times experience the busiest skies in the region.

The message handling solution – AMSS-TT – is based on COMSOFT’s market-leading AMHS product, AIDA-NG, and incorporates CADAS-ATS, which can handle both AFTN and AMHS messaging seamlessly, ensuring a smooth transition to AMHS. It includes COMSOFT’s popular AIDA-FPL Flight Plan Converter that guarantees full bi-directional compatibility of TTCAA’s end systems with the new ICAO flight plan format, FPL2012. It conforms to the latest ICAO standards for Basic and Extended AMHS Messaging Services.

Training was provided to TTCAA air traffic controllers by COMSOFT’s AMHS experts in the new state-of-the-art technology, a change that presents a quantum leap to the operators from the AFTN that has been used for decades.

The solution is scheduled to establish new interregional AMHS connections between TTCAA and air traffic centres in Atlanta, USA (NAM), and Caracas, Venezuela (SAM), offering yet another important link between the North and South American air traffic control regions.
