COMSOFT performed successful ADS-B roll-out for several sites throughout the Republic of Maldives.

The German surveillance expert COMSOFT has been contracted by Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) to introduce Quadrant Sensor ADS-B ground systems to the archipelago island chain.

The ADS-B sensors will provide for excellent and accurate air surveillance on the northern and southern Maldives, while two additional Quadrant Sensors are operational at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Malé, the main entrance for international air traffic, particularly used by a permanently growing stream of tourists who wish to enjoy the beauty of the islands. This most modern solution does not only provide surveillance derived from ADS-B reports of international air planes, but also from the large number of seaplanes taxiing in the vicinity of Malé airport, which is home of the busiest seaplane operation in the world with more than 400 movements between sunrise and sunset.

The seamless deployment, including intensive on- and offsite trainings, was completed successfully within three short months, and COMSOFT’s state-of-the- art ADS-B technology is now transmitting surveillance data to ATC client systems. In addition to the latest international ASTERIX standard, the Quadrant Sensor system is fully compliant to EUROCAE ED-129/149.

COMSOFT’s ADS-B groundstation has an extraordinary range, unmatched in industry, and comes with a Control and Monitoring System (QCMS) ensuring permanent performance supervision during operation and offering remote setting of all system parameters. The system does not need any regular maintenance service, ideal preconditions for an area with more than 1000 coral islands spread over a surface of 90,000 square kilometres, making the Republic of Maldives one of the world's most geographically dispersed nations.

The Maldivians’ unwavering determination led to impressive achievements since the first aircraft landed on Hulhule Island in October 1960. Introduction of the latest ADS-B technology is another important milestone in the ANSP’s history.

COMSOFT GmbH was established in 1979 and has been active in the ATC domain for over 20 years, offering tailor-made solutions to its customers. The ATM specialist enjoys an outstanding international reputation in this.
