New message handling solution for Zagreb’s ATC Centre represents entrance ticket to the AMHS network.

With the launch of the Flight Plan Converter and ATS Messaging Application (FAMA) project the Croatian air navigation service provider Croatia Control is about to turn over a new leaf regarding advanced messaging operations in the country. Even more important, with this project they ensure the interoperability of their existing flight planning systems with ICAO’s new flight plan format which is about to become effective in November 2012. The selected supplier COMSOFT will introduce a messaging solution fully capable of the AMHS standard, which at the same time acts as AFTN/AMHS gateway and as flight plan converter according to the specifications of Amendment 1 of ICAO’s Document 4444 and ICAO’s recommended flight plan conversion tables.

The predominant goals of Croatia Control are the system’s capability to cater for a smooth transition to AMHS and the migration of all their international and national X.25 services to IPv6. The scope and schedule of the project will further allow Croatia Control to meet the deadline for the worldwide transition to the new flight plan format in November 2012. “COMSOFT’s reputation and AIDA-NG’s track record of operational AMHS connections were decisive factors for our choice,” said Mr. Dražen Ramljak, Croatia Control's Director General at the contract signature ceremony. In fact, COMSOFT’s market leading AMHS solution has proven itself as a solid pillar in virtually all international AMHS connections worldwide and thus it guarantees a seamless transition from AFTN to AMHS.

Upon commissioning AMHS interoperability tests with the adjacent COM Centres are envisaged; apart from Rome, Vienna and Sarajevo already operate an AMHS link and will deliver supportive expertise in this respect.

COMSOFT GmbH was established in 1979 and has been active in the ATC domain for over 20 years. The company enjoys a worldwide reputation in this market.
