SMATSA’s FAMUS project has been concluded and all ATM systems have gone operational.

SMATSA, the common air navigation service provider of the Republic of Serbia and the State of Montenegro, has successfully completed its Future Air Traffic Management Modernization and Upgrade System (FAMUS) project and has launched a new state-of-the-art system into operation. The inauguration ceremony was held at the new Control Centre at the „Nikola Tesla‟ Airport in Belgrade, in the presence of the Serbian President, Boris Tadić.

The German ATC expert COMSOFT had greatly contributed to the success of the project, providing its renowned, market leading messaging solution for the handling and distribution of flight plans, AIDA-NG, along with several other products for the processing and recording of surveillance data, such as Europe‟s most prevalent surveillance data processing system, ARTAS, and COMSOFT‟s proven standard recording solution RRR.

Thanks to the quality and maturity of COMSOFT‟s top grade products and the outstanding collaboration between the involved SMATSA and COMSOFT staff members, the predetermined implementation schedule and budget frame were met. Nikola Stankov, President & CEO of SMATSA, is looking forward to a bright future, while not hesitating to emphasise the importance of the contribution of all parties involved: “We were able to begin operational work on the new system within the scheduled timeframe. We did not exceed our budget, and most importantly, we did not produce a negative effect on air traffic in Europe through the course of implementation and transition into the new system. I must highlight the fact that we were successful in this project as a result of tremendous input and dedication of SMATSA‟s employees as well as experts engaged by the manufacturers of our equipment.”

The AMHS solution was commissioned on 16th May and the cutover was performed on 23rd May, when all remaining systems were put into operation.

COMSOFT GmbH was established in 1979 and has been active in the ATC domain for over 20 years. The company enjoys a worldwide reputation in this market.
