In June 2009 Tern Systems Data Link Communication System became operational in Reykjavik Area Control Centre (RACC).  The DLCS supports Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Contract  (ADS-C) and Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC).

ADS-C enables the Control Centre to automatically create contracts with aircraft and receive information from onboard sensors.  Currently the RACC creates contracts for receiving periodic waypoint reports, but its application is to be extended in the near future.

Furthermore DLCS currently supports full CPDLC message set allowing Air Traffic Controllers and Pilots to exchange message in an effective and fault tolerant manner.

Tern Systems have been developing datalink applications in conjunction with for RACC since 2000, where the first services where taking into operation 2001.  In Septembers 2009 the DLCS is planned to be enhanced to be able to deliver oceanic clearances.  This will liberate air traffic controllers and radio operators from the tedious and error prone process of delivering the usually lengthy oceanic clearances via voice, using VHF or HF.

The DLCS is an optional modular part of Tern ATC Automation System (TAS), where it is integrated with surveillance (e.g. Radar) and flight data processing systems.
