CANSO, the Global Voice of ATM, has announced its support for delivering safety, operations, and efficiency improvements through industry “quick wins” such as PBN, flexible use of airspace and flexible routing.

Attending the IATA Operations Conference 2011 in Dubai, February 21-23, CANSO Director General Graham Lake said:
“As an industry, aviation is in a constant state of change and development. ATM must continue to evolve to meet increasing demand and reduce costs, but only so much can be achieved from working in isolation. To deliver real system efficiencies and improve safety,” he said, “ANSPs must work together with their airline customers to develop coordinated solutions to common challenges.”

“CANSO and IATA have already demonstrated a capacity for collaboration through our respective Operations Committees, but much more needs to happen. CANSO shares the view that initiatives such as PBN, flexible use of airspace, and flexible routing represent quick wins for the industry, and I am looking forward to working with IATA to push forward progress in these areas. We must also seek input from other industry stakeholders, such as the air traffic controllers, who bring significant insight in raising ATM system performance.”

“Ultimately,” concluded Mr Lake, “the value of our collaboration will be demonstrated when we deliver real results that will benefit the entire industry, and we intend to discuss many of the issues raised today at our Operations Conference next month.”
CANSO’s Global Operations Conference will be held in Amsterdam on 10-11 March. The event will focus on improved system performance, as well as delivering operational and environmental efficiencies for airspace users and customers. For more information visit www.canso.org/operationsconference2011
