Following the success of the Phase One project for the new Control Tower at London Southend Airport, Stobart Developments has awarded a further significant contract to Surrey based Systems Interface for the Navigation Aids, Meteorological Equipment and Airfield Ground Lighting.
For this second phase of the airport expansion project, Systems Interface will supply two Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), Instrument Runway Visual Range (IRVR) including all associated civil works power and communication infrastructure as well as complete systems design and an integration package.
In addition Systems Interface will supply and install a complete CAT I Airfield Ground Lighting system including all associated civil works, system design and integration.
Alastair Welch, Managing Director of London Southend Airport said: “The excellent collaborative performance of Systems Interface during Phase One of the project reassures us of the commitment they will give to Phase Two of this project. We look forward to working with them once again.”
Stobart Group
Stobart Group aims to open the runway and new terminal in 2011. London Southend Airport will provide a gateway to the London Olympics and Paralympics. A new airport railway station is already complete (50 minutes from London Liverpool Street) and work has commenced on a new airport hotel.
The runway extension will continue to be categorised as a Code 3 Aerodrome, taking aircraft with generally up to 160 passengers such as Airbus A319 and Boeing 737 (typically used for short haul operations).
