Date 01.10.2010

Ultra Electronics Airport Systems today announced it has won a contract to provide an integrated suite of airport operational systems at Edmonton International Airport (EIA) in Alberta, Canada.

Ultra will integrate and provide on-going operational support for a new Flight Information Display System (FIDS), as well as an Airport Operational Database (AODB) and Resource Management System to support the expansion of the airport.  Edmonton International Airport has recently been named as the most efficient small airport in Canada, according to the B.C.-based Air Transport Research Society.

“Ultra is very excited to be working with Edmonton International Airport and we welcome them as a valued partner and customer to Ultra,” stated Dale Kirby, Ultra’s Vice President and Managing Director – Americas. “Our systems are very mature, stable and technically advanced for airport customers who value high performance and low cost of ownership.  Ultra’s increased market growth in North America and in particular Canada continues to be significant. Canadian airports tend be very progressive in terms of their IT strategies which lends itself to one of the core strengths and market differentiators for Ultra.”

Ultra will install their systems in three main phases as they work in close coordination with EIA to ensure there is no disruption to the operational environment.  The new systems will improve customer service at EIA by providing airport and airline staff with accurate operational information to optimize passenger flow through the airport.  EIA will also enjoy reduced integration risks as new systems are introduced throughout their on-going “Expansion 2012” project, as well improved utilization and flexibility of key airport resources.

“Ultra did a really good job of explaining the benefits and reliability of their platform to us,” stated Reagan Winchester, EIA’s Director of Information Technology. “We look forward to a long and beneficial relationship that will enhance the travel experience of millions of air passengers in Canada, and beyond.”

About Edmonton Airports

Edmonton Airports is a community-based, financially independent, non-share corporation that manages Edmonton International Airport – one of the fastest growing and largest (by area) major Canadian airport. Edmonton International serves about six million passengers per year and offers non-stop service to more than 50 national and international destinations.

The “Expansion 2012” project is critical to EIA's ongoing success as a hub for northwestern Canada. When the expansion is completed in late 2012, it will improve the overall passenger experience by being able to accommodate new gates (potentially boosting the number to 30, from the current 17); a new NAV Canada control tower complex which will include expanded restaurants, retail and office space; an integrated baggage room to allow baggage drop-off at any designated locations across the terminal; a new passenger concourse; and expanded parking.
