Voice Communication Systems for Air Traffic Control

Company FREQUENTIS
Date 15.10.2010

Swiss air traffic control (skyguide) manages civil and military aviation in one of the busiest and most complex airspaces in Europe. The ANSP first awarded Frequentis a supplier contract in April 2003, which led to the successful completion of Project VISTA I (Voice Integrated Switches for Air Traffic Control) in Geneva and VISTA II in Zurich. Now, Frequentis also support skyguide with their centralized VOLMET and ATIS solution for Geneva and Zurich in order to increase efficiency of their information workflows.

smartATIS/VOLMET is one of the solutions of the TAPtoos® (Tower and AirPort tools) family of Frequentis. With the latest product release smartTools 4.0 (smartATIS/VOLMET) by Frequentis the company will now also support skyguide in the implementation of the centralized VOLMET and ATIS solution for Geneva, Zurich Bern and Lugano Airports. One of the reasons for Frequentis was selected is its high competence in the field of network solutions and information systems. The combination of the product portfolio of Frequentis in this area (iRIF, VCX IP and TAPtools) was one of the success factors.

Philippe Chappuis, Director of Procurement and Strategic Sourcing at skyguide, says: “I’m very pleased with the successful completion of the latest contracts with Frequentis. I particularly value the strong cooperative spirit and high level of innovation they bring to projects.”

Tower Automation Systems – a platform for efficient information processing
With its TAPtools® (Tower and AirPort tools), Frequentis offers a modular product range that is tailored to meet all the task-related needs of air traffic controllers. The integration of various data sources and applications and its uniform presentation on the user’s display help controllers absorb information much faster. TAPtools® for weather data, the Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS), NAVAID status, lighting control and electronic flight strips (smartStrips) simplify the controller’s work and increase each individual's efficiency.
