Voice Communication Systems for Air Traffic Control

Company FREQUENTIS
Date 18.01.2011

Frequentis has won a contract from Morocco’s Casablanca-based Société de Fabrications Radioélectriques Marocaines (SFRM). SFRM is completely refurbishing the Ouarzazate ATC tower for Office National Des Aéroports (ONDA). Frequentis will supply the Moroccan tower’s new voice communication system (VCS).

In order to meet the inherent requirement for high reliability in an air traffic control switching system, Frequentis will provide the tower with the company’s cost-effective smart3020X system. Part of the VCS 3020X family, the smart3020X voice communication system employs state of the art technology for digital voice communications. It is based on a unique, highly modular, distributed and decentralised architecture that incorporates extensive redundancy – providing a true parallel operation core switch with duplicated data and audio paths. The smart3020X features the very latest user interface technology, including sunlight- readable colour touch panels.

The VCS 3020X system has built in flexibility that allows it to adapt to future requirements, including support for integration within IP-based environments. It complies in full with EUROCAE WG67 specifications. The Ouarzazate system will be delivered in early 2011.
