Volacom’s BCAS Air the only automatic bird detection+deterrence system at World Birdstrike Association’s 2022 Webinar

Speaking before close to 100 airport wildlife management professionals, industry experts, regulators and other bird strike stakeholders, Volacom’s Chief Ecologist Martin Georgiev presented the latest generation of the company’s technologically superior airport-dedicated bird control system – the BCAS Air. The presentation stressed on the main characteristics and principle of operation, focusing as well on the scientific research and findings behind the technology – a distinctive feature of Volacom’s science-led approach to innovation.

Although a number of companies in the sector showcased their monitoring and detection solutions, only a couple spoke of deterrence, which is the main challenge faced by airports and is still predominantly addressed through obsolete and ineffective methods like wildlife control operators and scarecrows.

BCAS Air was the only system presented that has both detection and deterrence capabilities, is fully automatic, operates 24/7 and in all weather conditions. Emitting a proprietary ASR-inducing acoustic deterrence signal, completely harmless to wildlife, it creates a bird-free protection zone over the critical runway and landing / take-off areas, where more than 80% of all bird strikes happen.
