Dubai International Airport has thousands of travellers transiting through each day and is estimated to handle close to 70 million passengers a year. Dubai International Airport is ranked fourth in the world for both passenger and cargo traffic. Tons of solid waste are collected across the terminals and it was becoming increasingly important that airport officials focus their efforts on controlling the collection of waste and contributing to the development of a clean, sustainable future for a sector of the economy that contributes 28 percent of Dubai’s GDP.

Innovative Product Range
Over the years as the expansion of the Dubai International Airport continued more waste receptacles were supplied and distributed by Blue Stream across the terminals. The most recent distribution in large quantities is that of Blue Stream’s classic products; SS Ballerina, SS Taurus and the Bravo bin. The waste receptacle called S.S TAURUS was specially designed according to specifications laid down by the Engineering Projects Division of the Dubai Civil Aviation.
According to Managing Director, Mr. Suvarna Jeetendra, the receptacle bins were custom designed to accommodate a waste capacity that is ideal for the traffic at the airport as well as maintain the most appropriate and user-friendly height. The bin height and design was expected to conform to the ADA standard for accessible Design laid down by the Americans with Disabilities Act. The bins have a maximal secure design for highly sensitive areas like the airport and come with a lockable side door for garbage clearance, a tilt-free base to prevent tipping over even when empty.
Project Specific
“These bins with a capacity of 85 liters are the ideal capacity bins for airports in the UAE to match the kind of footfall expected daily at the Dubai International Airport. Most of our design are project specific and we work meticulously with clients to conceptualize and develop a customized range of waste receptacles for their projects”, said Mr. Suvarna.
The BRAVO bin is an entirely wooden design with mahogany finish to match the exquisite first and business class lounges of the new Emirates Airline airport. It is an exquisite combination of wood and steel to provide a luxurious addition to these exclusive lounges. These bins have optional ashtray fittings to accommodate both the smoking as well as the non-smoking areas.
The SS BALERINA bins have a self-extinguishing design in order to mediate any chances of fires starting from disposed waste. These bins are ideally used to handle paper waste at immigration, check in and other counters at the airport.
Most of these receptacles have customized logos and coloring as per airport specifications.
