XL DIN EV Battery Fire Blanket for Airports & Ground Support Equipment

The AVD Fire XL DIN EV Battery Fire Blanket is a specialist lithium-ion battery fire containment solution for airports, designed to manage fires involving electric ground support equipment (GSE), airport vehicles, and large EV assets.

As airports continue to electrify operations, lithium-ion batteries are increasingly used across baggage handling tractors, aircraft tugs, passenger buses, catering vehicles, and maintenance fleets, as well as within terminal-based electric equipment. These high-energy battery systems introduce complex fire risks, particularly in airside environments, EV charging zones, and high-traffic terminal areas.

The XL EV fire blanket is engineered to fully encapsulate larger vehicles and equipment, delivering rapid fire containment at the point of ignition. By suppressing flames, reducing heat release, and limiting oxygen, the blanket helps control thermal runaway events and prevents fire spread to nearby aircraft, infrastructure, and adjacent assets.

Manufactured from advanced, multi-layer fire-resistant materials, the blanket is capable of withstanding extreme temperatures exceeding 1000°C, while also providing protection against radiant heat and potential battery cell ejection. This makes it ideal for deployment across airport aprons, service roads, maintenance zones, and terminal forecourts.

Key Features

  • EV fire blanket for airport vehicles and ground support equipment (GSE)
  • Designed for large electric vehicles and lithium-ion battery systems
  • Working temperature exceeding 1000°C
  • Fireproof technical fabric with fire-resistant coating
  • Reinforced multi-layer edge lining for durability
  • Eyelets for tethering in airside conditions
  • Fire-resistant industrial stitching
  • Handling loops for rapid emergency deployment

Technical Performance

The blanket is manufactured using high-temperature silica-based glass fibre fabric, enhanced with proprietary coatings for flame resistance and durability. A vermiculite dispersion mineral coating improves thermal performance, supported by a protective silicone layer.

  • No rupture after prolonged exposure at 1000°C
  • Maintains integrity for 30 minutes at 1200°C
  • Controlled degradation between 1300°C–1500°C

Airport Fire Safety & Risk Mitigation

Designed for modern aviation environments, the XL DIN EV fire blanket supports airport fire safety strategies, lithium-ion battery risk management, and operational continuity.

It enables:

  • Fast containment of EV and lithium-ion battery fires
  • Reduced fire escalation in airside and terminal environments
  • Protection of aircraft, infrastructure, and high-value assets
  • Improved safety for passengers, staff, and emergency responders

As lithium-ion battery usage grows across aviation, this solution provides a future-ready fire protection system for airports, aligning with evolving safety standards and insurance requirements.
