AVD 6L Lithium Fire Extinguisher

Description
Specifications

The AVD 6L Lithium-Ion Fire Extinguisher is engineered to address the growing risk of lithium-ion battery fires within airport and aviation environments, where the rapid electrification of ground support equipment (eGSE), terminal operations, passenger devices, and charging infrastructure is introducing new and complex fire hazards.

Unlike conventional fire risks, lithium-ion battery fires are driven by thermal runaway, a self-sustaining chemical reaction that can rapidly escalate, propagate between cells, and reignite after initial suppression. Traditional extinguishing agents are not designed to manage this behaviour effectively.

The AVD 6L extinguisher utilises Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion (AVD) technology, delivering a fine mist containing exfoliated vermiculite platelets. Upon application, the agent provides a dual-action response:

  • Rapid cooling of battery cells to arrest thermal runaway
  • Formation of a heat-resistant, oxygen-blocking film to prevent re-ignition

This mechanism enables effective control, containment, and suppression of lithium-ion battery fires at the point of risk.

The product has undergone rigorous independent testing, including:

  • UL-tested performance validation for lithium-ion fire scenarios
  • Emirates Safety Laboratory testing, aligned with aviation-specific operational requirements
  • Additional recognised certifications and approvals supporting global deployment across regulated environments

These accreditations provide assurance to airport operators, insurers, and regulatory bodies that the solution meets the highest standards of safety and performance.

Designed specifically for indoor and terminal environments, the AVD 6L extinguisher supports rapid first-response intervention, helping to:

  • Prevent escalation into major incidents
  • Protect passengers, staff, and critical infrastructure
  • Maintain operational continuity across high-traffic zones

As lithium-ion adoption accelerates across aviation ecosystems, the AVD 6L represents a category-leading fire protection solution, enabling airports to stay ahead of evolving safety, compliance, and risk management requirements.
