Airport Information

Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport is a major international airport, located around eight miles south of Manchester city centre. It is the third busiest airport in Britain and one of only two airports in the country with two runways.

Manchester Airport is the global gateway to the North of England. Every year we handle around 19 million passengers, using over 60 airlines flying direct to around 200 destinations. With around 19,000 people employed directly on-site, our growth is shared by our city and the whole region.

The cargo operation at Manchester has been growing from a relatively small base throughout our history, and has shown significant growth in recent years.

Manchester Airport has won prestigious industry recognition for customer service, and holds the title of ‘Best UK Airport’. We’re active and engaged in our local communities, with a positive approach to corporate responsibility. You can find out more about this, and discover a range of opportunities in jobs, property and business development at our dedicated website: MAGAirports.com

Manchester Airports Group

The Manchester Airports Group umbrella consists of the operations of Manchester Airport, alongside London Stansted and East Midlands. MAG Property and Cargo Operations also come under the remit of our brand, representing Manchester Airport as the global gateway to the North of England and beyond.

Airport Profile

  • Cargo

Manchester Airport is a global gateway to the North of England. Manchester Airport currently handles around 100,000 tonnes of import and export freight and mail annually, connecting the North of England to 160 destinations around the world.

Manchester Airport’s cargo facility, the World Freight Terminal, is a community of more than 1,000 professionals managing freight-only aircraft as well as consignments that arrive or depart in the holds of passenger aircraft. Having grown to meet the increasing demands on importers and exporters across the country, our 24/7 service operates from 60,000 square metres of warehouse and office space for a comprehensive air cargo support system.

Manchester’s largest cargo markets are the Far East, North America and the Middle East, with daily flights connecting to all of these destinations.

  • Community

Manchester Airport has developed a strong partnership with the local communities neighbouring the site. Key to our success has been our public commitment to community programmes and to maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with our neighbours. Find out more about Manchester Airport’s commitment to building on our past success, with the intent of making our immediate community a key part of any future success going forward.

For an overview of our work of the last year please see our 2017-2018 Corporate Social Responsibility Report and see our June Community News and June Wythenshawe Community News for seasonal updates.

In celebration of our 80th Birthday Manchester Airport has produced its own children’s book; called “Reach For The Sky”. The book, aimed at Primary School children, tells an enchanting story about travel, determination and achieving your dreams. We published 5,000 and these have been distributed to support children’s reading across our catchment area.

  • Corporate Social Responsibility Report

The aviation industry creates many economic benefits and social opportunities, despite a number of challenges such as climate change, air quality, noise disturbance and the rapidly changing security environment.

Our Annual Report provides  an overview of how we manage these issues – what we said we would do over the last year, what we achieved and what we plan to do – which come together to form the various aspects of our sustainability programme.
