Company Lisbon 'Humberto Delgado' Airport
Date 11.05.2022

We are delighted to have welcomed at Lisbon airport this special Air France flight, part of the Sustainable Flight Challenge organized by SkyTeam. A great opportunity for our teams to highlight the several climate initiatives we take to not only reduce our impact but also work with our stakeholders for a low carbon mobility.

Among Air France’s extensive network of destinations around the world from Paris CDG, the choice fell on Lisbon airport for its most sustainable medium-haul flight. The operation took place on a commercial flights carried out last Thursday and operated on an Airbus A220. These latest generation aircraft, at the heart of the airline’s fleet renewal strategy, consume between 20 and 25% less fuel than previous generation aircraft. The flight was fuelled with 30% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), compared with 1% currently for flights departing from France and under the regulations. To pursue the sustainable flight once landed, only 100% electrical equipment was used (loaders and steps) for ground handling for instance.

Our teams had also the opportunity to showcase some initiatives we’ve put in place such as: electric power to supply the ACT on ground, electric service vehicles, waste sorting throughout the terminal, plastic bottle compactor- or predictive irrigation system at arrivals areas.

This project was part of the “Skyteam Sustainable Flight Challenge”, an initiative aimed at stimulating and encouraging innovation by inviting the alliance’s member airlines to operate the most eco-responsible flights possible from 1 to 14 May 2022.
