Company Athens International Airport
Date 28.09.2026

Athens International Airport (AIA) has been ranked the most efficient airport in Europe in the category serving more than 30 million passengers annually by the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS).

The airport received the 2026 Europe Airport Efficiency Excellence award following the publication of ATRS’s Global Annual Benchmarking Report, which assesses the performance of almost 200 commercial airports worldwide each year.

The annual ATRS awards evaluate airports against a range of performance indicators, including financial efficiency, competitiveness and productivity, as well as their wider economic and social contribution.

AIA was recognised for its economic and social impact and its contribution to the aviation and tourism sectors, as well as the wider economy and society.

The award was accepted on behalf of Athens International Airport by Nadia Xyrogianni, Chief Financial Officer, and Giorgos Eleftheriou, Manager of Investor Relations.

The latest recognition continues AIA’s history of success in the ATRS rankings. The airport previously received the top efficiency award in Europe in its passenger category in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2020.
