Budapest Airport adds another new airline to its roll call, welcoming SCAT Airlines

Just six weeks into the new year and Budapest Airport, part of the VINCI Airports network, confirms the addition of its second new airline to its carrier roll call. Set to welcome the launch of a new direct route connecting Budapest and Shymkent, Kazakhstan, the link will be operated by SCAT Airlines.
Budapest Airport will welcome a new airline and destination this summer as SCAT Airlines launches a direct connection to Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
With its inauguration on 27 May 2025, the new service marks the addition of a new airline, a new destination, and a new country to Budapest Airport’s expanding route network.
SCAT Airlines, headquartered at Shymkent International Airport, will operate twice-weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays, utilising the state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 8200, ensuring a modern and comfortable travel experience for passengers.
“This new route to Shymkent is a significant milestone for Budapest Airport, further strengthening our connectivity with Central Asia,” said Máté Ritter, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport. “We are thrilled to welcome SCAT Airlines to Budapest and look forward to a successful collaboration that benefits both leisure and business travellers.”
The initial operation is planned for one year, starting in May, providing Hungarian travellers with direct access to one of Kazakhstan’s key economic and cultural hubs. The connection also opens new opportunities for tourism, trade, and economic cooperation between Hungary and Kazakhstan.
The new connection further reinforces Budapest Airport’s commitment to expanding its presence in Central Asia. With growing interest in the region, the airport aims to develop additional connections to major cities in Kazakhstan and beyond, strengthening Hungary’s role as a key European gateway to Central Asia.
With the introduction of SCAT Airlines, Budapest Airport continues to expand its global network, offering passengers more choices and seamless connections to exciting new destinations.
