Budapest Airport cargo team joins TIACA

Budapest Airport Cargo has received a great honor and recognition: the Cargo team of Budapest Airport has been elected to become a trustee member of TIACA, the International Air Cargo Association. By joining, Budapest Airport will have unparalleled opportunities; amongst other things, to strengthen its international relations, work together with the most influential industry players, gain insight into the highest level of industry reporting and innovation and influence future decisions in the air cargo industry.

The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) is a unique, international non-profit association that brings together all players in the air cargo industry, including freight forwarders, ground handlers, airports, airlines and manufacturers. Since the early 1990s, the organization has been working to create a safe and unified air cargo industry that serves trade and social development worldwide, in a sustainable and equitable manner, using modern technologies and practices. The association also provides support for the sustainable development of its members’ cargo activities and promotes their development, through educational programs. TIACA currently has 400 members worldwide.

Budapest Airport will sign the accession document in March 2022, according to which it will participate in the work of the organization as a trustee, a voting member.

Steven Polmans, Chairman, TIACA said: “We are excited to see the overwhelming growth Budapest Airport has experienced over the past couple of years, and we welcome them into the TIACA family. Not only their growth, but especially their vision and approach involving the entire air cargo community makes me believe we share a common goal. It was a great pleasure to work with the BUD team during the 2019 Executive Summit, and we look forward to collaborating with them as a voting member. By joining the association as a trustee member, Budapest Airport shows their support for our transformation, the work of the association and the benefit TIACA can bring to Budapest Airport and the entire air cargo community around it.”

René Droese, Chief Development Officer for Budapest Airport, commented: “We are delighted to join TIACA at the highest level, as we are joining the largest professional cargo organization in the world. I believe that our cooperation with the association will be very beneficial for Budapest Airport and the Hungarian economy in terms of expanding our network of contacts and sharing knowledge. We would like to approach this opportunity responsibly, using our cooperation to do great things together in the future in the digitization of air cargo, cargo processes, technological developments, the regulatory environment and other cargo developments.”

József Kossuth, Head of Cargo for Budapest Airport, added: “It took many years of conscious build-up to have our activities recognized at a high level by international organizations. Budapest Airport’s development in air cargo is not only about the growth in the volume of cargo we handle, but about the whole environment and ecosystem that has been built around cargo. We are well on our way to becoming the hub of the region, and this is due to the persistent and high-quality work of many of our colleagues, authorities and partners, as evidenced now by our membership of TIACA.”
