Denver International Airport Construction Alert for the Great Hall Project

Company Denver International Airport
Date 11.03.2022

As part of Phase 2 of the Great Hall Project, crews have been actively constructing the new security checkpoint in the northwest corner of Level 6 as well as the new triple escalator that will take passenger from post-security on Level 6 down to the train platform to access the train to the gates. As a result of this work and other related Phase 2 activities, passengers can expect a few changes over the next week.

Level 4 Departure Platform Construction Walls in Place
As construction progresses on the new escalator from Level 6 to the train platform on Level 4, crews will be installing additional construction walls on the train platform. Although the additional walls will not require passengers to be rerouted, space will be restricted on the platform and passengers are asked to move to the center of the train platform to make room for others.

North Security Checkpoint Closing One-Hour Early
As work on the triple escalator progresses near the North Security Checkpoint, crews need extended time in this space to safely install steel beams. As a result, starting March 13, the North Security Checkpoint will close at 8 p.m. rather than 9 p.m. daily until further notice. The South Security Checkpoint will remain available to passengers and employees 24/7. When the North Security Checkpoint closes, travelers with TSA PreCheck will use the South Security Checkpoint and will go through an expediated screening process. New Construction Walls Added to the South End of the Terminal on Level 6
New construction walls have been installed at the south end of the terminal on both the east and west sides of Level 6 to begin construction that will modify the ticketing spaces formerly occupied by United and Southwest Airlines before they moved into the completed Phase 1 space last year. These check-in areas will be updated to accommodate future airline moves that are necessary for the buildout of the Level 6 Northwest Security Checkpoint. The walls will not impend movements and no detours are required for this work. Airlines currently in this area will continue to operate as normal.

Phase 2 of the Great Hall Project is on time and on budget and will be complete by mid-2024 with the checkpoint complete in the first quarter of 2024. Hensel Phelps is the contractor of this phase as well as the completed Phase 1, which wrapped up on time and under budget in Nov. 2021.
