Denver International Airport to Begin Construction of the Second Level 6 Security Checkpoint

Company Denver International Airport
Date 16.11.2022

This week, Denver International Airport (DEN) will officially begin construction of the second new security checkpoint on Level 6 on the northeast side of the Jeppesen Terminal as part of the Great Hall Completion, the final phase of the Great Hall Project.

Earlier this year, we received approval from Denver City Council to move forward on the $1.3 billion Great Hall Completion which will fulfill our original vision for the project by building the second new security checkpoint on Level 6 and constructing and modernizing the remaining ticket lobbies amongst other improvements,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington. “This is a significant milestone as we look to bring an enhanced and more efficient security experience to our passengers.

To accommodate the work, construction walls will be installed, and the following closures will be in place:

  • The interior corridor on the east side overlooking the North Security Checkpoint will be completely closed. A pathway to and from Bridge Security and the north end of the terminal is available on the east side of the terminal.
  • The restrooms located on the northeast side of Level 6 will be closed permanently except the family restroom located near the stairwell on the north end. Additional restrooms are located nearby on Level 6 and directly below on Level 5.
  • On passenger drop-off Level 6, the first two lanes of traffic including the sidewalk from doors 601 to 603 will be closed. Passengers can be dropped off between doors 603 and 617 during the day until 10 p.m.

All security checkpoints will remain operational during construction and there will always be a corridor open to access the north end of the terminal as well as the Bridge Security. Passengers are strongly encouraged to check live TSA wait times on FlyDenver.com to help them choose the most efficient checkpoint.

The construction walls in the northeast corner of the Terminal will remain in place in various configurations until the Level 6 East Checkpoint is complete in mid-2026. The Level 6 West Checkpoint, currently under construction, will be complete in Q1 2024.

The new security checkpoints are part of the Great Hall Project that will enhance security, increase capacity, improve operational efficiencies and elevate the passenger experience. In addition to the new security checkpoints, the project will build new ticket lobbies for the remaining airlines that will be similar to what United, Southwest and Frontier area currently using.
