Director General of Boryspil International Airport met with the delegation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)

On July 26, 2023, a working meeting of Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, Director General, with representatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) was held at Boryspil International Airport. The members of the delegation were Harsheth Virk, Head of the UNODC office in Ukraine, Ketil Ottersen, Head of the UNODC Passenger and Cargo Border Team, Passenger and Cargo Border team, and Naida Chamilova, Regional Coordinator, UNODC Border Management Branch.

The visit was carried out as part of the ongoing UNODC cooperation with the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine regarding the assessment of priority checkpoints (PCPs) in Ukraine for air, road, sea and railway connections.

During the working meeting, Oleksiy Dubrevskyy, Director General of Boryspil International Airport noted: “We see a great interest of international organizations and donors in restoring the aviation sector of Ukraine. For our part, we are also interested in establishing cooperation and expanding partnerships related to the further resumption of the work of the Ukrainian air sector. ”

As a result of the meeting, the UNODC delegation observed the condition of Boryspil airport and expressed its respect to the airport employees, who have been uninterruptedly maintaining the operational activities of its facilities since the beginning of the full-scale war: “We are impressed that in the time of constant threats and uncertainty, the airport is not only continuing to function as an infrastructure facility, but also retains all its staff and continues to train them. We were struck by the commitment of airport workers are already concerned with the safety of future flights and have concrete plans to strengthen systems for improved security and airport experience. We want to share the experience of Boryspil airport with the international community and call on them to continue cooperation and provide technical and financial support to Boryspil airport, to ensure preparedness for it to serve as the main airport of Ukraine, ” said Harsheth Virk, Head of the UNODC Office in Ukraine.

The UNODC delegation assured that it will continue to cooperate and support the restoration of the airport by bringing UNODC’s global experience on Passenger and Cargo Border management. The UNODC will exchange the results of the meeting and inspection of the airport with potential donors.
