First strategic partnership with an Indian cargo hub – Strong driver for trade between Europe and India – Enhanced cooperation to facilitate efficient and future-proofed air cargo – Partnership a result of successful cargo roadshow

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Bangalore International Airport (BLR) have concluded a comprehensive strategic partnership for air cargo. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding today, both airports will enhance their partnership and set new standards for goods transport between Europe and India. By working together, both partners are seeking to develop innovative digital solutions and further optimize regulatory processes, with the aim of sustainably strengthening the emerging Indian market.

Alexander Laukenmann, Fraport Senior Executive Vice President Aviation says: “The partnership with Bangalore International Airport represents the creation of a robust bridge between two key cargo and economic hubs that will unlock new opportunities for businesses and serve as a major driver for the future of international goods traffic. In line with the motto ‘Creating the Future of Cargo. Together.’, we’re focusing on partnership-driven innovation. We want to create optimal conditions for our customers and the entire cargo community. Our partnership is a key pillar of our Frankfurt CargoHub Masterplan and underlines our ambition to actively shape international air cargo traffic.”

Girish Nair, Chief Operating Officer, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), adds, “This partnership reflects a strategic shift toward building more integrated and data-led cargo corridors between India and Europe. As BLR Airport continues to invest in cargo infrastructure, technology and capability development, collaborations like this help translate those investments into efficient, scalable trade lanes that support the movement of high-value and time-sensitive cargo. Our focus remains on building a resilient and future-ready ecosystem that can adapt to evolving trade dynamics, and regulatory expectations to create long-term value for airlines, freight forwarders and trade partners.”

The new partnership aims to draw on innovative capabilities, dialog, and mutual understanding. Frankfurt and Bangalore are pooling their know-how to make supply chains even more efficient, transparent, and sustainable – at a time when global markets and underlying economic conditions are changing rapidly.

The partnership came out of the successful cargo roadshow that brought together industry experts and decision-makers in India in April last year. During the roadshow, Fraport was able to highlight the advantages of its own location, while also exploring and focusing on the needs and potential opportunities of the Indian market. The resulting partnership is another key milestone in Fraport’s global growth strategy.

With 1.45 billion people, India is one of the world’s biggest and most dynamic markets, with Frankfurt Airport serving as a key gateway for India’s European and global trade. With the recently concluded free trade agreement between the European Union and India, new opportunities will open up for international trade and air cargo. Frankfurt Airport and Bangalore International Airport are responding to these developments by taking these early steps and are keen to play a role in actively shaping the transformation.
