In August, work continues on the $2.3-billion modernization of Terminals 2 and 3, with the connector between Terminals 1 and 2 temporarily closed during demolition and renovation of the old Transportation Security Administration checkpoint. Construction is also taking place on a new connector between Terminal 3 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal and the remainder of the Terminal 3 concourse. Meanwhile, demolition has been completed on the eastern half of the Terminal 4 headhouse as part of a $1.62-billion modernization project that includes reconstruction of much of the 60-year-old building.
A number of projects related to the LAX Automated People Mover (APM) are also under construction, including five of the elevated bridges that will connect terminals to future stations, and the Terminal Vertical Cores that include elevators and escalators to reach all levels. Exterior metal and glass panels are being installed at several APM stations. The last steel for the West Central Terminal Area (CTA) station will be place in early August.
