London Luton Airport (LLA) staff recently provided a warm welcome to James Blunt, as the singer-songwriter filmed a series of promotional videos across the terminal to launch his latest album, Airplane Mode. The album is released today (6th November).
Colleagues from LLA’s Guest Experience and Security teams were also given a unique opportunity to step in front of camera and deliver starring roles in the videos. Thankfully for the Celebrity Traitors finalist, filming at the airport involved none of the betrayal experienced during his spell in the Scottish Highlands, as LLA staff proved to be willing faithfuls throughout the shoot.
Clare Armstrong, Head of Guest Experience at London Luton Airport, said: “We were delighted that James chose London Luton Airport as the backdrop to promote his new album. It was fantastic to see colleagues from across the airport being such good sports and they did a wonderful job of showcasing the simple and friendly passenger experience we look to deliver every day. We all wish James every success with the new album.”
James Blunt commented: “The London Luton Airport team was kind enough to let me in to film some wonderful promotional material for my new album and we were looked after brilliantly. The energy and enthusiasm of both staff and passengers really added to the fun and I think we’ve created something that will make people smile. The album’s title, Airplane Mode, nods to the importance of blocking out the constant noise of outside connections and refocusing on what matters. I hope it’s on the playlist of millions of LLA passengers this year!”
The collaboration is the latest in a series of initiatives launched by the airport this year to encourage passengers to disconnect from the digital world:
• Over the summer, LLA commissioned children’s author, illustrator and comedian Olaf Falafel, to develop a comic-style children’s book, 26 Minutes to Save Summer. Almost 1,500 copies of the book were handed out to families heading off on their holidays, to help children rediscover the joy of reading.
• In partnership with dermatologist Dr Nora Jaafar, LLA launched a pop-up ‘Glow Up Gate’, offering passengers the opportunity to relax and unwind with free pre-flight facials ahead of their travels.
• The airport’s annual ‘LLA Resort’ saw local musicians, singers and DJs bring passengers’ holiday playlists to life with a ‘no headphones needed’ welcome to the terminal throughout the summer.
