The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the Biden Administration has awarded San Diego International Airport (SAN) $12.1 million in discretionary grant funds as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – Airport Terminal Program (ATP). The grant will be used to fund Phase 1B construction of the New Terminal 1 (New T1) that includes the installation of two passenger boarding bridges, pilings, foundation concrete, flooring, roofing, and structural steel.
“We thank the FAA and truly appreciate the support of U.S. Senator Alex Padilla and Congressman Scott Peters as well as our entire congressional delegation in making these funds available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” said Kimberly J. Becker, President & CEO, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. “The $12.1 million from the Airport Terminal Program will fund an essential portion of the New T1 which is the largest construction project in this airport’s history. These passenger boarding bridges will be the gateway for millions of visitors to our new terminal and ultimately to our vibrant binational region. Our purpose is creating an exceptional customer experience for the community and the world, and these passenger bridges are an important step towards that goal.”
This is the third ATP grant and marks $87.1 million in discretionary funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law awarded to SAN. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law invests in the nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness. This is the fourth year that dollars have been granted for eligible airport projects during a five-year competitively based grant cycle. One-hundred and twenty-five airports across the country were awarded grants in this funding round.
