The travel experience at Helsinki Airport has been renewed – these things have changed

Company Helsinki Airport
Date 03.03.2023
Helsinki Airport’s departures and arrivals halls, security control, shops, restaurants and services have been revamped. Finavia’s extensive development programme at Helsinki Airport will be completed by the end of 2023.

Check out our list of things that have changed:

  1. Departures hall

All passengers depart via Helsinki Airport’s new and stunning departures hall. The check-in areas, bag drop, currency exchange and security control are all located in the departures hall. The departures hall’s iconic wooden ceiling and large windows are Finnish design at its best.

  1. Security control

Helsinki Airport’s security control uses next-generation technology. There is no need to remove electronics and liquids from bags for scanning. Going through security control is quick and easy. There is a separate line for families with children.

  1. A wide range of services

A variety of new shops, restaurants, kiosks, cafes, lounges and much more have opened at the airport! Moomins, Marimekko, Balmuir, Iittala, Suomalainen Kirjakauppa, Alepa, R-kioski and many others are examples of popular Finnish brands. A food court called Food Hall has opened in the arrivals hall, and a food court will also open in the gate area in the early summer.

  1. Baggage claim hall

Helsinki Airport’s new, spacious baggage claim hall has even more baggage carousels. All passengers arrive at the same baggage claim hall. The hall has a Duty Free shop and an arrival service. The baggage claim hall will be completed in summer 2023.

  1. Arrivals hall

In the airport’s arrivals hall, passengers are greeted by the nature diorama Luoto. A wide range of services, from kiosks to restaurants and lounges, is also available to passengers and visitors to the airport. The arrivals hall combines various modes of transport: parking and short-term parking, rental cars, a taxi station, a train station, a bicycle parking area and a bus station.

  1. Parking

Two new parking halls, P1 Premium and P2, have opened at Helsinki Airport. Both have direct access to the terminal via lifts, which are only a few steps away from security control. In addition, there is a new short-term parking area in front of the arrivals hall for picking up passengers.

What is still to come?

The extensive development programme at Helsinki Airport is nearing completion. Before that, however, there will be further additions: new shops and a food court consisting of six kitchens will open in the gate area. The baggage claim hall will be completed and new services will be launched throughout the terminal. Learn more about the Helsinki Airport Development Programme.
