The Hungarian gateway’s achievements and dedication to route development over the past year stood out among five other outstanding winners who were recognised in their own categories at the event. With innovative strategies, collaborative efforts and commitment to excellence, Budapest was celebrated for excellence in airport and destination marketing, while emphasising the significance of partnerships in sustainable route development.

Commenting at the awards, Balázs Bogáts, CCO, Budapest Airport, exclaimed: “Together we have cultivated a place of connectivity, efficiency, and passenger satisfaction. We push boundaries, explore new horizons, and deliver impactful marketing and this accolade reflects our unwavering commitment to achieve excellence and continue the path of innovation. My deepest gratitude goes to our exceptional team, our airline partners, and all those who contribute to our success!”

Budapest welcomed 14.7 million passengers in 2023, representing a robust 91% return of pre-pandemic levels. The airport saw a significant expansion of non-stop scheduled seat capacity by over 30% to key global markets beyond Europe, including China, the Middle East, and North Africa, notably becoming the eighth largest European airport in the EU for non-stop seat capacity from South Korea.

Budapest’s dedication to enhancing air connectivity and strategic marketing efforts are pivotal to the airport’s success. By leveraging creative and innovative tactics, engaging millions of global travellers and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships with aviation stakeholders, the airport has broadened its passenger demographic and effectively showcased the destination’s charm and appeal.

Bogáts adds: “Last week we brought home our 11th Skytrax ‘Best Airport in Eastern Europe’ Award and now we have been crowned overall winner at Routes Europe and it’s all thanks to
amazing teamwork and dedication. These achievements highlight our vision and commitment to provide unparalleled connectivity from our airport.”
