Wizz Air, Europe’s fastest-growing and most environmentally sustainable airline globally[1], today celebrates over 70 million passengers who have travelled to London Luton Airport (LLA).

The milestone 70 millionth passenger was welcomed on a flight from Tirana to London Luton Airport.

Wizz Air is the largest carrier at London Luton Airport, with 11 aircraft. The airline operates 50 return flights per day from the airport, to 60 destinations in 28 countries.

This month Wizz Air will launch flights to Salzburg, Austria from London Luton. The airline has also announced special flights this summer to Germany for the UEFA European Football Championships, to help England fans support their national team.

Wizz Air announced in July 2023 that London Luton Airport would become an all A321neo base by 2025. Operating in a 239-seat configuration, the switch to all A321neo aircraft offers a nearly 50 percent reduction in noise footprint, 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and half the amount of nitrogen oxide emissions compared to the previous generation aircraft[2].

Zsuzsa Trubek, Corporate Communications Manager of Wizz Air, said: “London Luton Airport is a special place for us. It is home to our UK head office and is the airport that we operate the majority of our UK flights from. We are delighted to celebrate over 70 million people flying with us to and from this base. This milestone could not have been achieved without the dedication, integrity, and passion from our staff. We look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with the airport and welcoming even more passengers on board.”

Jonathan Rayner, Chief Commercial Officer at London Luton Airport, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Wizz Air at London Luton Airport and the latest key milestone in a partnership that has continued to flourish since their first flight from Katowice in Poland almost 20 years ago. Since then, London Luton Airport and Wizz have worked closely to achieve impressive, sustained growth in passenger numbers and an ever-greater choice in destinations, as well as collaborating on new solutions that support the airport’s commitment to sustainable aviation.  We look forward to another busy year as we continue to focus on delivering a simple and friendly passenger experience and the next big milestone in our partnership.”

Wizz Air currently employs close to 600 people at its London Luton Airport base, and will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year.
