YUL Montréal-Trudeau Airport parking facility earns Envision sustainability certification

ADM Aéroports de Montréal has announced that the P4 parking facility at YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport has received Envision Verified certification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI).

The certification makes P4 the first airport infrastructure project and the first parking facility in Canada to receive the internationally recognised distinction.

Opened in February 2024, the P4 facility was among the first projects completed as part of YUL’s Flight Plan infrastructure modernisation programme. The project was assessed against 64 sustainability and resilience criteria covering areas including quality of life, stakeholder engagement, resource management, energy efficiency, climate resilience and environmental protection.

A number of measures were incorporated into the project to reduce its environmental impact and improve its resilience. These include rooftop photovoltaic panels, a partially green roof, measures to reduce energy consumption and sustainable stormwater management.

The facility also incorporates measures designed to support passenger mobility, including a shuttle service connecting the parking facility with the terminal and a parking guidance system showing available spaces.

During construction, almost 90% of waste was diverted from landfill. The facility’s modular concrete structure is designed to provide an extended service life and greater resilience to climate-related risks, while its adaptable design allows the building to be converted to other uses in the future.

ADM President and CEO Yves Beauchamp said the certification recognised the work of the project teams and partners and demonstrated that high-performing, sustainable and resilient infrastructure could be developed to meet the needs of the airport’s users and surrounding community.

Anthony Kane, President and CEO of the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure, said the P4 project demonstrated how sustainability could be incorporated into the planning, design and delivery of critical airport infrastructure.

YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport is operated by ADM Aéroports de Montréal, which is responsible for the management, operation and development of the airport and YMX Tech Park. YUL’s air service network connects Montréal with 160 destinations worldwide.
