Zauberpark: The new festival at Zurich Airport

Company Zurich Airport
Date 27.08.2021

In 2021 the first winter festival – Zauberpark – will take place in the new Airport Park. Guests can look forward to a high-calibre musical programme with Swiss stars, fascinating light installations and food from regional restaurateurs. Zürcher Kantonalbank is the presenting partner of Zauberpark.

From 25 November until 12 December 2021, the Airport Park at the Circle will be transformed into an open-air festival site. During these 18 days, stars from the Swiss music scene as well as children’s acts will take to the large stage each day. Light installations along the panorama route will transform the park into a magical world for visitors, while a number of restaurateurs will provide food on the festival square. The Zauberpark is an experience for young and old, for families and friends, music fans and culture vultures, and is also an ideal venue for Advent get-togethers and Christmas parties. The organisers are expecting around 40,000 visitors.

“We have planned a lot for the Zauberpark. We want people to be enthusiastic and enjoy an experience that will leave a lasting memory. At the Zauberpark, visitors can experience music, art, nature and food in an unforgettable way – they can be inspired, admire, discover and enjoy.”

Stefan Feldmann, Head The Circle, Flughafen Zürich AG

Zauberwald Lenzerheide – Zauberpark Zurich
The initiators of the Zauberwald Lenzerheide developed a completely new festival concept in December 2013 with the combination of light art, food and music. This festival for the senses in the mountains has been continuously developed ever since. Together with Flughafen Zürich AG, the Zauberwald will be staged as a Zauberpark at Zurich Airport for the first time in 2021. Lenzerheide has the Zauberwald, and Zurich the Zauberpark.

“We are very pleased to stage the Zauberpark in a new setting for the first time and are confident that the exciting combination of light art, music and food will be a success at Zurich Airport too.”

Giancarlo Pallioppi, Chairman of the Organising Committee and co-initiator of Zauberwald Lenzerheide

Swiss stars & children’s programme
Concerts by music stars will take place daily at 20:15 on the Zauberpark festival site in the park. In 2021 the organising committee has engaged exclusively Swiss musicians. These include Seven, Jaël, Loco Escrito, Baschi, Pedestrians, Dabu Fantastic, Anna Rossinelli, Luca Hänni, Kadebostany and Philipp Fankhauser. Further top acts in Switzerland’s music scene will be communicated at the end of September. Swiss newcomers will also appear on the Zauberpark stage at the airport: both Winterthur-based singer-songwriter Andryy and ZIAN, a newcomer from Basel, whose song “Show You” remained in the Swiss charts for 19 weeks.

A varied programme has also been compiled for the youngest guests. The following children’s acts will appear in the early evening before the concerts: Switzerland’s most successful children’s musician, Andrew Bond, fairy tale-teller, actor and musician Carmen Lopes Sway as “Aunt Carmen”, children’s songwriter Sarah Lauper, magician and ventriloquist Dan White, Swiss rapper Knackeboul as “Knäcki” and the Zurich-based duo “Minitheater Hannibal”, who revamp well-known fairy tales and stories.

Light art in the park
In artistic terms, the Zauberpark promises a number of surprises with light installations in the park. The light installations curated by NOA (No Ordinary Art Lab AG) will be a “best-of” selection of light art from the Zauberwald Lenzerheide, including several new pieces created especially for the Zauberpark. Most of the light artists are from Switzerland. All light installations will be placed near the panorama route, which takes approx. 30-45 minutes to walk, depending on how long people linger. Visitors will walk past supersized forest animals or can light up large mushrooms.

Sponsorship & tickets
The organisers would like to sincerely thank Zürcher Kantonalbank, the presenting partner of the Zauberpark.

Tickets will go on sale on 26 August 2021. Guests can purchase different tickets and thus plan their individual visit. The ticket price structure has deliberately been kept affordable: For example, a ticket for a tour of the light installations and a concert (including children’s act) for adults costs just CHF 39.-. Offers will include tickets for just the children’s programme and light installations, for a concert (including children’s act and light installations) or for a visit to the light installations after the concert. Thanks to the commitment of Zürcher Kantonalbank, holders of a ZKB card can enjoy a 20% discount. Companies and organisations also have the opportunity to plan their Christmas event in the Zauberpark – including a culinary offering.

The current Covid protection concept stipulates that guests may only visit the Zauberpark if they have been tested, vaccinated or have recovered from Covid. The protection concept may be amended, subject to the progress of the pandemic or new decisions by the Federal Council.
