Reducing Ramp Agent Injuries Today, there is a significant risk of injuries to ramp agents as a result of how cargo is currently loaded and unloaded. In addition, we see damage to aircraft and cargo. The physical demands of the job alone cause inefficiencies in operations.

The Problem
Ramp agents spend their working hours loading and unloading cargo and baggage weighing from 30 -100 lbs. (13.6 – 45.3 kg.) These items need to be moved in a space about 25 feet (7.6 meters) long, and less than 4 feet (1.2 meters) high.

In most cases this involves either throwing or sliding objects with great force, which causes numerous problems for ramp agents, airlines, and their customers. The current system provides significant risk of bodily injuries as well as damage to aircraft and cargo. Sliding cargo is slow and ineffective. The alternative of throwing objects can result in damage to aircraft and cargo.

In addition, ramp agents can easily injure their backs by sliding or throwing cargo. The physical demands of the job alone cause inefficiencies in operations that stress ramp agents and cost money.

TISABAS is a compact motorized folding conveyor system that goes into the aircraft belly and mechanically moves baggage and cargo. This eliminates the need to throw heavy baggage, mail and freight the length of the aircraft.

Unloading

TISABAS will be on the belt loader when it pulls up to the aircraft. It is then moved inside the belly out of the way until it is needed. Sections are folded out as the agent goes further back into the belly. The belting system takes the bag to the doorway eliminating the need for the agent to throw the heavy bag from his/her knees the length of the belly. Belly lengths can be up to 25 feet. Each section has a switch that activates the belts when that section is flat and stops the belts as soon as it starts to fold.

Loading

TISABAS remains in the aircraft belly after the unloading process and is positioned ready for the next loading process. The sections are folded up and out of the way as the belly fills. It then goes back onto the belt loader and is ready for the next flight.
