Airport and Ground Handling Resource Management Systems

Company INFORM GmbH

GS RealTime has been rolled-out with only limited support from INFORM.

GroundStar is already successfully in use to plan Lufthansa’s passenger services staff at all of their major German locations with realtime allocation of check-in staff being underpinned by GroundStar at Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart Airports. Additionally, GroundStar has recently been rolled-out to the Lufthansa check-in operation at Cologne-Bonn Airport.

The Perseus system, as it is called by Lufthansa, is operated by Lufthansa Systems and allocates a total of 200 staff at Cologne- Bonn Airport. Its implementation became necessary when Lufthansa won the tender of a major costumer airline for check-in in November 2008. Prior to this, the deployment of check-in agents had been carried out manually but this became too complex and the system was then urgently needed. With only limited support by INFORM and the benefit of an experienced Lufthansa team led by Andreas Müller, IT Manager at Lufthansa Information Management, the GS RealTime was implemented over a very short period of time from December 2008 to March 2009 when it went live. “Our staff are quite happy with the system and consider Perseus to be an indispensable tool. The system was implemented on time and the operation has been running smoothly since then,” states Andreas Müller. The implementation not only included GS RealTime but also Staff Notification which allows viewing tasks and task information via the agents’ computers installed at every check-in counter.

Given the extent of functionality that has been implemented, it is important to emphasise the excellent job done by the Lufthansa team in rolling-out the system basically unaided.
