Since its inception in 1977, M.M. has been operating in the Fiberglass Reinforced Polymers (FRP) industry, producing high quality gratings and structures (handrails, walkways, stairways, ladders, fences, gates, etc.). The intrinsic properties of FRP allow to create light, resistant and easy to install structures that do not require maintenance and are characterised by great versatility of use.

M.M. has developed fencing systems suitable for the airports. These systems are the ideal solution to protect the sensitive areas of the airports. Fences are used to delimit airport perimeters and the radar systems in order to prevent the accidental or intentional entrance of non-authorized people and animals.

M.M. fences comply with ICAO frangibility requirements, both in terms of loads transmitted and in terms of energy absorbed in the event of a collision and ensure that there is no loss of control of the aircraft after the impact.

The airport fences of M.M. are made with risers in FRP pultruded profiles and FRP gratings or mesh. The risers are embedded directly into concrete foundations in the ground or fastened to them with base plates. The distance between the risers, as well as between the braces, is calculated in accordance with the acting loads (Wind, Jet-Blast,…) and the height. The height of standard solutions ranges from 1 to 2.5 m. Moreover, the fence can be equipped with one or two sloped arms for barbed wire/concertina.

The fence is supplied as kit thus can be installed quickly. There is no need to use of specific lifting equipment that may interfere with the daily take-off and landing activities.

M.M. fencing systems are:

• FRANGIBILE: the possible impact does not result in loss of control of the aircraft.
• PERMEABLE TO ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES: the fence does not interfere with any communication system.
• ELECTRICALLY-INSULATING: no grounding needed.
• WEATHER-RESISTANT AND UV RAY-RESISTANT: suitable to any environment.
• LIGHT AND EASY TO INSTALL: provided as kit, no cranes or specific equipment needed; no runway closure during installation.
• MAINTENANCE-FREE: durable, minimization of maintenance costs. 

FRP profiles are CE marked via ETA (European Technical Assessment) according to Regulation EU no. 305/2011 for construction products, and standard profiles made of isophthalic resin. On request they can be produced using other resins to meet specific customer needs.

All profiles feature a polyester surface veil which, impregnated with a large quantity of resin, seals the surface of the profile itself, ensuring protection from UV rays and atmospheric agents and preventing the glass fibers from surfacing

FRP Gratings are certified as long lasting products whose mechanical performance is not affected by the cycles of hot/cold and humidity exposure in accordance with the UNI EN ISO 9142 standard. They have also passed the aging resistance test with cycles of UV exposure in accordance with the ASTM G154 standard; they are supplied with self-extinguishing properties in accordance with EN13501, ASTM E84, ASTM D635, DIN 4102, NFP 92-507 standards.
