Hinged bumper for passenger boarding bridges

Description

Protection for sensitive sensors

The docking process with a passenger boarding bridge requires a high level of concentration on the part of the operators in order to avoid damage to the aircraft. Some aircraft types have sensitive sensors installed in the area to the left of the cabin door. Therefore, when docking, special attention must be paid to the positioning of the passenger boarding bridge so that it does not touch or damage these sensors.

To avoid damage to the AOA sensor on Boeing 787 aircraft, for example, it is necessary to create a certain amount of free space in the area of the passenger boarding bridge’s floor bumper.

Hübner has developed a hinged section in the floor bumper that makes it possible to provide this additional free space. Depending on the aircraft type, the 320 mm long section of the bumper can be folded up at the push of a button or remain in the lower position.

The Hübner hinged bumper is available as an option for all versions of the PBBI family. Retrofitting to floor units in passenger boarding bridges from other manufacturers can also be carried out without any problems.

Avoiding damage to sensitive sensors (e.g. AOA sensors)

The Hübner hinged bumper makes it possible to have a larger (and safer) distance between sensitive sensor equipment located in the airplane fuselage and the floor bumper of the passenger boarding bridge. This gives more clearance during docking and reduces the risk of damage.
