Connecting the bridge with the fuselage
The Passenger Boarding Bridge Interface (PBB Interface) from HÜBNER connects the passenger boarding bridge with the aircraft fuselage. It provides optimal sealing with all aircraft types, high efficiency as well as optional touchless docking.
We bring safety to the docking process
The PBB interface enables you to dock a passenger boarding bridge to an aircraft in the safest way possible. The undercarriage of the passenger boarding bridge is stopped at a sufficient safety distance from the aircraft to prevent damage due to swinging.
The flexible floor is then extended against the aircraft contour to seal across the entire width. When docked, the flexible system compensates for vertical movements of the aircraft during the handling process. The contact pressure applied in the process is significantly below the limit value permitted by the standards. The stability of the passenger boarding bridge is maintained by the slight contact of the floor.
Five modules for secure and gap-free docking with the aircraft
- Flexible sliding floor: The flexible sliding floor can be moved precisely towards the aircraft and adapts to the contour of the aircraft. The maximum extension is 400 mm over the entire width. To completely prevent damage to the aircraft, the floor bumper is mounted on the front of the flexible sliding floor. Optionally, the PBB interface can be equipped with additional sensors and floor heating.
- Rotatable swivel adapter: The rotatable swivel adapter allows the PBB interface to be swivelled sideways by up to 6° and replaces the previous pendulum floor.
- Floor bumper: Floor bumper from HÜBNER are manufactured using a special process which ensures that the bumpers retain their flexibility at all temperatures and provide a perfect seal – whether for smaller aircraft such as the EMB 145 or larger planes such as the Airbus 320 and even the jumbo Airbus A380.
- Folding canopy: For the folding canopy of our PBB Interface we exclusively use folding bellows fabric that we have developed and produced ourselves. This material is highly fire resistant and meets the most important international fire safety standards such as NFPA 415.
- Kinematic and drive system: This is the system that performs the extension and retraction of the folding canopy. The lever system of the patented kinematic system ensure optimal sealing of the folding canopy at the aircraft body contours – with a minimum amount of pressure applied.
Suitable for all aircraft types
The Passenger Boarding Bridge Interface (PBB Interface) is suited for handling all standard aircraft types, including the latest generations of aircraft. In comparison to existing aircraft connection systems, impressive energy savings are possible with this system due to improved sealing mechanics. Even for wide-body aircraft types, the PBB interface offers sufficient space for damage-free opening of the aircraft doors.
PPB Interface – Design
The module consists of a solid basic frame that is mounted on the cabin of the passenger boarding bridge as well as an adjustable tilt-correction floor element with the folding canopy. The horizontal orientation of the PBB Interface to the airplane entrance is performed via the tilt correction movement. In contrast to earlier pendulum floors, the new flexible sliding floor element moves together with the complete canopy. This allows for optimal sealing – a noticeable benefit particularly with extreme exterior temperatures.
PPB Interface – Sealing
The combination of the tilt correction function with the flexible sliding floor makes for optimal docking between the folding canopy and the aircraft fuselage. Through the horizontal positioning of the interface, the different inclination angles in the passenger boarding bridge which occur in handling different types of aircraft can be compensated for. Low contact pressure of the sliding floor element against the aircraft prevents any damage to the airplane body.
Individual branding & practical handling
The Passenger Boarding Bridge Interface can be individually designed and adjusted to the specific requirements of airport operators. Retrofitting of existing passenger boarding bridges can be undertaken without problem. The Interface can be delivered in separate parts facilitating easy and economical shipment.
