ATC Message Handling System (AFTN / AMHS)

Description
Specifications

Copperchase’s ATC Message Handling System gives airports, air navigation service providers (ANSPs) and communication centres reliable AFTN and AMHS messaging for every air traffic control (ATC) unit. AFTN and AMHS (ATS Message Handling System) are the global ground-to-ground networks of the Aeronautical Fixed Service (AFS), used to exchange flight plans, OPMET weather (METAR/TAF), NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) and distress messages between ATC units, airports and airline operations centres.

Copperchase supplies a complete range of AFTN and AMHS (X.400) connectors, client terminals, message switches, gateways and message processing systems, all complying with ICAO and EUR standards, including ICAO Doc 9880 and the EUR AMHS Manual (EUR Doc 020).

Easy ATS message creation. Familiar on-screen forms create ICAO Doc 4444 ATS messages, including FPL, CHG, CNL, DLA, DEP, ARR, CPL, EST and ALR, helping reduce errors and workload.

AFTN to AMHS interoperability. Flexible AFTN↔AMHS address conversion uses either an ICAO-compliant X.500 ATN Directory or AMC tables, so ANSPs can migrate from AFTN to AMHS at their own pace. Extended ATS Message Handling Services support binary data and file attachments, IWXXM XML weather messages and digital signatures.

Resilient and secure. Store-and-forward message queuing, redundancy and high-availability options, audit trails and full logging keep critical aeronautical messages flowing and traceable.

Proven in UK ATC. Copperchase AMHS messaging, based on NATS UK X.400 technology, is in service at UK airports including Cranfield and St Athan.

From a single AFTN terminal to a complete AMHS message switch, Copperchase’s ATC Message Handling System delivers dependable AFTN and AMHS messaging for air traffic control. Find out more at https://www.copperchase.co.uk/product-services
