ARINC Inc. and Spanish IT specialist Ikusi have installed a remotely hosted check-in and departure system at the newly expanded Lleida-Alguaire Airport in Spain to enable to airport to handle an increase in passenger numbers this season.
The airport is expecting an additional 30,000 arrivals and departures following the launch of charter operations by UK travel operator Neilson-Thomas Cook, and has installed a new check-in area with six desks, a departure area with two additional gates and an arrivals area with two baggage claim belts to cope with the extra passengers.
The vMUSE Enterprise and Hosted DCS system installed by ARINC and Ikusi operates on cost effective ‘thin client’ hardware using an Internet connection and processes data at an off-site processor maintained by ARINC, thereby reducing the local infrastructure requirements without the need for servers or on-site workstations.
“These new passenger systems will fully meet the peak operational needs of our tour operators, reducing the processing times while remaining within the budget of a seasonal airport such as ours,” said Alberto Lopez, Lleida Airport director.
In addition to its improvements for passenger check-in and departure, Lleida Airport has also installed two new security control points and passport control stations which will double the airport’s previous security handling capacity.
