The concession of Peru's new Chinchero international airport in Cuzco has attracted interest from at least 35 international companies, according to transport and communications (MTC) minister Enrique Cornejo.

The companies come from countries including Brazil, Canada, Spain, the US, France, Mexico and Portugal.
''At the moment, Chinchero airport is the most important project to concession before the change of government, which is why demand for it is so high,'' state news agency Andina quoted Cornejo as saying.
Private investment promotion agency ProInversión is due to announce prequalified firms by July 4 and award the concession on July 27.

The US$350mn project involves designing, building, financing and operating the airport under a 30-year contract.

The new LEED-certified terminal, to be located about 29km outside of the Cuzco city center, is expected to handle 2.6mn passengers annually by 2021.
