Incheon International Airport was awarded the Skytrax World Airport Awards’ World’s Best Airport in 2012 award last night at a live ceremony during Passenger Terminal Expo in Vienna, Austria. As some of the world’s most prestigious and coveted awards, the World Airport Awards recognise product and service quality across the global airport industry.

Other airports recognised in the top ten World’s Best Airports in 2012 included Singapore Changi (2), Hong Kong International (3) and Amsterdam Schiphol (4). In 2011, Incheon International came third with Hong Kong receiving the top accolade.

The World Airport Awards are based on 12 million survey questionnaires completed by over 100 different nationalities of airline customers during the nine month survey period in 2011/2012, covering more than 388 airports worldwide. The industry survey is totally independent and evaluates traveller experiences across 39 different airport service and product factors, from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate.

"The collaboration with Passenger Terminal Expo enables Skytrax to host the World Airport Awards at a venue that offers very clear synergies between the two events," said Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax. "It provides the platform to publicly honour the winning airports, whilst at the same time delivering an awards ceremony that is not influenced by any third party – this concept is of paramount importance to us.”
