Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) will take delivery of the first of eight body scanners in late August, The Australian has reported.
The airport will carry out trials and plans to have at least two scanners in operation by September 2012 and the rest coming online by May 2013, a BAC spokeswoman told the newspaper.
Not all passengers will be asked to use the scanners, the spokeswoman said, as the process of selection will be kept random.
According to The Australian, Cairns and Gold Coast international airports will also introduce the body scanners, along with Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Darwin.
The Queensland Council of Civil Liberties has opposed their use, calling the body scanners "a virtual strip search".
